I must be honest… orange never ranked very high in my “favourite colours” list. My answer to what is your favourite colour used to go something like this: “O well, I am an artist! So, I cannot have a favourite colour! However, I am drawn to the colour purple; and the colour I prefer not to use is… orange.”. I am not certain what sparked this discrimination towards the colour orange. I cannot recall ever being chased by an orange clown nor had I ever had nightmares of orange Halloween Jack-o'-lanterns spooking me! Thankfully, this all changed!
Below are 15 reasons why Orange is now one of my favourite colours, and why you should love it too!
1. As said by Frank Sinatra, “Orange is the happiest colour”. A splash of orange squeezes out warmth, amusement, the unconventional, extroversion, energy, vitality, cheer, excitement, flamboyance and good health.
2. Oranges. Oranges, after all, are the reason that oranges are orange.
3. Garfield. Nemo. Tigger. Hobbs. All our favourite animation characters.
4. The word “orange” is a special one. There are no perfect rhyming words for “orange”, except for a few that Alan Scorkin found… “Floorange” – an orange that has been dropped on the ground, but before the 5-second rule has expired. “Borange” – an orange so dull you can’t even be bothered finishing it. “Memorange” – an orange that sort of reminds you of another orange that you’ve eaten before. “Nanorange” – a really tiny orange that you can’t even see.
5. Autumn. The amazing phenomena when green leaves turn red, yellow, brown and orange. It’s not too hot, but not yet cold. Bikini season is FINALLY over! And cuddling is pleasant again.
6. Flames, fires and sunsets. Orange sparks romance!
7. Gingers. We only tease them because we secretly envy their uniqueness, their ability to not get lost in a crowd, their excuse for having a fiery temper, their sense of humour, the fact that they are in themselves a fashion statement and that red hair doesn't grey as much as other hair colours do. (This is also the colour that your hair turns out every time you try to dye it blonde yourself).
8. Yummy snacks! Nik-Nak Chips and Fanta.
9. Healthy snacks. Carrots, clementines, nectarines, peaches. And of course, Vitamin C.
10. The orange properties in Monopoly. The Orange properties are the most-landed-upon properties in Monopoly. This makes them the most lucrative and acquiring these properties gives you a very high probability of winning!
11. Cheddar Cheese.
12. Donald Trump… and all spray tans gone-wrong.
13. The most beautiful flowers come in orange! Orange Poppies, Tiger Lilies, Begonias, Strelitzias, Marigolds, Roses and Tulips.
14. Orange ensures our safety. Due to its high visibility life jackets, traffic cones, and traffic lights come in shades of orange.
And last, but not least.
